To help out the ever increasing number of international visitors to London I have decided to put together some of my top tips for exploring this fascinating and vibrant city on a budget.

As you may expect from the capital of the United Kingdom, and the largest city in the European Union, prices for a lot of things are inflated, but there are still bargains to be had and many ways to avoiding spending a fortune on your time here. People who fear they cannot afford a visit to this amazing city will unnecessarily miss out on what many view as the global capital of culture, fashion, finance and trade.

Once you have found the best (cheapest) way to get into this great city, accommodation is usually next on the list. London provides every type of accommodation; from luxury hotels to the cheap and cheerful that I am going to focus on. If you’re a younger traveller the way forward is definitely to choose from the wide variety of hostel London. Hostels are an ideal way to meet people, and more importantly get an idea of what there is to see and do, here you will meet people who have experience in the city and that can provide invaluable tips on the most entertaining areas to head to.

If hostels are not your thing then there is a lot more budget accommodation London to choose from. Good quality, boutique, hotels can be found not far from the city centre, also, the further out of the centre (zone 1) you head the lower nightly rates will be. And with London’s extensive travel network you will still have no trouble getting to the famous sights and attractions.

Speaking of sights and attractions, these can also mount up to quite a hefty portion of your holiday budget. My best advice would be to plan which sight you would most like to see, and prioritise. Some of London’s most famous attractions are free, so don’t be brainwashed by the vast number of tour operators attempting to sell you tickets. For example, timing it right for the changing of the guard at Westminster Abbey, visiting Trafalgar Square, exploring the markets (Borough Market is especially great for food!), a walk through Hyde Park, these are all free options and will be highlights of your trip. London is a great city for walking, you can avoid the expensive bus tours by donning your walking boots and planning a route to take in some of the finest sights in the world.

London’s West End is usually top of the list for tourists too. If theatre is your thing I have 2 top tips; either book in advance online, or if you’re not too picky visit the kiosks in Leicester Square in the evening and pick up some bargain last minute tickets.

While exploring the UK’s shores, hills and cities has always been a popular choice for British families, holidaying on home turf has undeniably become more widespread in recent years. Figures from research consultancy BRDC Continental show that nearly half (48 per cent) of Brits are intending to holiday in the UK this year, up from 39 per cent in 2010.

Although for many the reasons for choosing to holiday on home shores are financial, holidaymakers are finding that taking breaks in the UK has allowed them to plan more intimate and activity filled holidays. One factor aiding this trend is the superb breadth of accommodation on offer here. Alongside hotels, B&Bs and guest houses, the UK has a fantastic range of self-catering accommodation such as villas and cottages provided by well-established firms such as Easy Cottages

One of the main advantages of staying in accommodation which offers a home-away-from-home feel, is the ability to stay right in the midst of the community you are exploring. This means you get a much more intimate view of the environment and if you are planning activities such as walking or cycling, you can choose to stay in the very areas which you plan to explore – saving you valuable time and money which could otherwise be spent on travel. With parking available for free with this type of accommodation, a cottage or villa break offers savings on staying in more traditional lodgings such as hotels where parking fees can sometimes be payable on top of your stay.

Choosing a self-catering break in general will often save you cash by keeping you in control of how much you spend on your meals, as well as when you choose to eat them. Nowadays holiday cottages offer far more amenities than a basic kitchen however. Alongside TV’s and DVD players you may also expect to find more luxury items to enhance your holidays such as Jacuzzis and hot tubs. Or if cooking really is your thing you may benefit from an on-site BBQ to give you even more creative catering choice.

If you are planning a holiday here in the UK and want to pack in as much as possible while keeping an eye on the purse strings, make sure you investigate the self-catering options available to you in your chosen destination.

For generations, France had been beckoning travelers and tourists all across the world. The rich mix of history, culture and architecture has worked in favor of France, and has converted into one of the most visited countries in the world. Although there are a number of travel agencies and companies who are ready to offer you the best travel package for France, many people nowadays are opting for self catering holidays. Even though it’s a new idea, and not many would adhere to it, still people are following suit and are opting to plan the holidays their own way, rather than choosing a strict and stringent travel package.
A self catering holiday in France involves everything from choosing the apartment you want to stay in; to the way you want to schedule your vacation. It is the idea of complete freedom and personal customization that makes this whole concept uniquely adventurous. Accommodations had been always a problem, with not enough hotels or pre-booked rooms. But if you choose the self catering service, not only can you pick and select the apartment of your choice, you can actually encounter a sample of actual French life. With selections ranging from Farmhouses to Studios, and from Chateaux to Manoirs, a wide range of choice awaits you.
With self catering holidays, you do not need to worry about getting up early in the mornings for an important trip to a historic location. In fact, it would completely depend on you whether you want to visit a particular place or not. You can even choose to shop groceries from the local market vendors or the baker’s croissants, in case you are in the mood to cook. If you feel complacent, you can obviously feast on French barbeque, complemented by fresh wine. You are the master of your vacation.
Before you actually tread foot on a self catering holiday in France, you need to do some research about it. Information on the weather, local people, travel locations, etc. should be right at your fingertip. Also be sure about the time of your visit. Winters in France are a delight for one and all. It is also the time to try some winter sports. Hence, if you want to experience some of them, you need to visit France during the winters. So without much ado, plan your self-catering holiday in France, and spend a relaxed, friendly and informal vacation that you will cherish throughout your life.

More and more people are opting for self catering holidays these days. What exactly is a self catering holiday? A self catering holiday is one that allows you to arrange for your own food instead of depending upon the hotel or the resort for it. This means that the room you will be getting will be fully equipped with all kinds of cooking utensils and equipments. But you might wonder why these holidays are so popular? These holidays provide a host of advantages and benefits which the age old all inclusive holidays failed to provide. One of the biggest charms of a self catering holiday is that it offers you the best deal when it comes to privacy. Most of the self catering resorts typically are built as a collection of cottages or villas rather than providing the age old corridors of rooms. And if cottages sound too modest to you, you can also opt for those luxurious villas or beach houses.

Along with privacy you are also provided with the flexibility of eating out or eating in. You do not have to stay restricted to eating in the hotel only. You might want to go out some days and try the local food. You might want to eat late some other day. There might be some other day when you are just out exploring about and cannot make it back to the hotel within the meal times. Now would it just not be bugging if you always had to worry about the time you had to be back for food. Come on; after all this vacation was supposed to give you break from that. And the best part is that you get this freedom and flexibility without being to hard on your pocket.

However before you go for a self catering holiday, you need to be a bit prepared for your trip as you get a lot of choices with self catering holidays. If you are low on budget, you could choose to go for the tents or cabins. For those who are ready to spend a bit more you could go choose those king sized villas. Find out before hand about the place you are going to stay in. Tell the managers what kind of an experience you are looking for. You might want a romantic getaway for which you could be assigned a more isolated cottage. In case you are out with your children, you could be assigned to a cottage which is closer to the children’s activity centre.

Another consideration is what you should pack for the trip. For that you need to do your research on the place where you are going. Is your cottage going to be close to the market place? Do you need to carry your own ration? Are there good places to eat out close to your resort? Other things that you will have to consider before you go are what kind of activity the place offers. Is your destination more of an outdoor spot or indoor spot? These things can affect your food choices. If you plan out your self catering holiday well advance on time, you will actually be able to have a great trip at a very economic rate.

The South Coast of the UK is no longer a forgotten treasure, and with many beautiful types of scenery to behold and activities for all the family, it is the perfect place to visit.
The Isle of Wight is perfect for south coast holidays. A diamond shaped island which is just 23 miles wide and 13 miles high, it is nestled between France and the far south of Great Britain and three miles from Portsmouth’s coast. There is plenty to do on the Island including visiting the infamous Carisbrooke Castle. The castle was home to King Charles I for his last year of life before being executed. Other delights to explore include two Medieval deep wells, Castle Keep, battlements and of course the donkeys grazing the grounds.
As well as its award winning zoo and its 12 recommended beaches, there is a free attraction called Ventnor Botanic Gardens. This is an interesting place for a pleasant amble amongst sub-tropical and exotic plants and trees from around the world. Nearby, the quaint Steephill Cove is a fantastic place for a picturesque walk amongst traditional cottages or even a safe bathing session on its quiet sloping beach.
The South Downs is another gem on the South Coast, often referred to as ‘the lungs of the south-east’. They are made up of rolling chalk hills, quaint little downland villages and beautiful landscapes, which have been recently recognised as a National Park.
The Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust in Arundel is a great place for a family day out. With 26 acres to investigate, boardwalks and hides to discover, hundreds of birds to feed, and a Pond Explorer area where younger children can explore in the water to find small pond creatures to examine. Guided boat safaris travel deep into the reed beds, where you can see water voles, snakes and migrant birds. Close to the Wetlands lies Swanbourn Lake, an idyllic picnic spot with boats for hire and a small cafe.
Dartmoor is famous for its legends, ponies and fantastic rugged scenery. Quality local produce is available from farmers markets with many activities on offer including horse riding, fishing and scenic walks. Dartmoor is relaxing and peaceful, and you are guaranteed to take away fond memories from your visit.
